Summer is finally here and it seems like it is going to be a scorcher this one. All I want to do is stay in the air conditioning or be outside in the pool. Even though it is this hot it seems that everyone enjoys the summer. Baseball, outdoor sports especially boating people can do so much during this time of year. But there are some things about summer safety that I would like to bring up to all of you that read our blogs. This was please pass on to your friends and family.
This topic is so important to all of us. Beacuse of the extreme heat this year this topic is soo important.
Leaving your kids, pets or elder-family member in the car while you run into the store for “just a minute.” In hot weather, according to many different studies, if the outside temperature is 85 degrees, within FIVE minutes the inside of the car (even with the windows cracked) will be 90 degrees. In TEN minutes, it will be 100 degrees and in 30 minutes it will be 120 degrees. At 107 degrees, (body temperature) all the body’s enzymes in the cells are destroyed and the person will die.

Every year 40 children or adults die in overheated cars. Since 1998, 417 children have died in cars. Since no caring adult will intend to leave their child in an overheated car, it is just up to everyone else to be on the lookout for kids, pets or elders left alone while the driver “just runs in” to get a quick thing or two from the grocery, post office or department store. Time passes—very quickly! Don’t make a fatal mistake!
And for pool and beach safety, in addition to watching your child at all times and making sure they have their life jackets on, include Sun Screen. Did you know that every time a child (or adult) gets a sun burn, it increases their chance of getting skin cancer? If a child has five sunburns in their life, their changes double of getting skin cancer. And melanoma is the number one killer of all skin cancers. Keep your child and yourself, safe from the sun!
Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car. Open the windows after you enter your car and turn ON the AC after a couple of minutes. Here's why: According to research, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car).
In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. This can also cause miscarriages.
Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50mg per sq. foot, A car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level. People who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin. Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver.. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff. So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time for interior to air out -dispel the deadly stuff - before you enter.
Keep safe this summer, and remember, if you have to take a pet along, make sure it is a Zhu Zhu Pet! They are the rage of kids of all ages! The best part about them is that they don’t have to be fed, they don’t have to eat, they never soil the carpet or car seats and you CAN leave them in the car without worry!

About three weeks ago we were invited to cover for TV and radio the NHRA Drag Reunion, the 8th Holley NHRA-National Hot Rod Reunion was held at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. What a weekend! We saw over 1500 Nostalgia Cars at the show. We met some of the greatest drivers of all time my all time favorite was Barbara Hamilton, she gave us a wonderful history of her racing career. We met so many drivers and teams that it was hard to remember all their names.
The day of the race we interviewed on our radio show Tony Thacker, Director of the Wally Parks NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA Al "Mousie" Marcelius owner of the famed Winged Express Fuel Altered. Brad Thompson - Driver of High Speed Motorsports Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster. Paul Romine - Owner/Driver of "Man Of War" Nostalgia Funny Car.
A big thanks goes out to my friend Donna Anderson of SoffSeal and the NHRA Tony Thacker, BE Daniels and Monica Valdez for for the weekend of a lifetime in Motor Sports, thanks again.

The 4th of July is my favorite time of Year especially decorating my door and outside garden. Here is an example of making a display that will wow your guests.
My favorite summer recipes.
Favorite Summer Party Dip- Margie’s Cheese Dip- This was my cousin Margie Meyer's creation!
Take 8oz of block Swiss cheese – shred very fine like coconut
Chop ¼ onion very fine
20 drops of Tabasco
1 cup of Hellmann’s Light Mayonnaise
Combine all ingredients in small bowl
Place in refrigerator for at least an hour
Serve with crackers, fresh vegetables
Really Yummy!!!!!!!!!!
For a fun and cool summer dish that is both scrumptious and nutritious, pick up some fresh-from-the-garden vegetables at your local farmer’s market. There is nothing better than home-grown vegetables this time of the year. Try this chopped salad it’s a favorite at our house.
2-3 medium size tomatoes, chopped into ¼” cubes
3-4 small to medium cucumbers, peeled and chopped into ¼” cubes
1 yellow and 1 green bell pepper (medium to large) chopped into ¼” pieces
Celery if desired (but not mandatory)
Ranch Dressing (low-fat, fat-free, whatever kind you want) Or Italian, Russian or French Dressing.
Toss all and enjoy! This yummy salad is cool, quick and delicious!
Have a wonderful summer!
See you soon!
